Life Without Limbs - A story Of Hope And Courage
Can you imagine a life without arms and legs? Suppose that you have to do your daily work without them. You can’t walk, you can’t take care of your basic needs and you can’t even hug the people you really love. How pathetic would that life be? I hope you may think you would better be dead. Can there be someone who can live with all such difficulties and that too very happily?
If your answer is NO, let me introduce you to Nicholas Vujicic - born without arms and legs and yet living his life to the fullest. This Australian native was born with phocemelia and there was no reason for this condition. He had a very difficult childhood and adolescence. He was bullied at school for his shortcomings. Like any other child, he also wanted to play but couldn’t. He was so much frustrated with his disabilities that he wanted to commit suicide at the age of ten. He felt that he had no value, was a burden to his parents and would never get married.
But as it is said, god works in mysterious ways. He saw a young boy with no legs and hands like him and he knew he could help him. This is when his life changed and he was determined that he won’t give up ever again.
His dad was a great support to him. He used to say to Nick, “You are a gift, just packaged differently”. At the age of 19 he started giving motivational speeches in Australia. Very soon, he was famous enough and was going to different countries giving speeches.
In an interview, he said, "I believe there’s a reason why something happens. You do your best and trust in God and never give up. I grew up with this mindset and was thankful for what I had. Also, my parents raised me in such a beautiful way."
A person who has so much difficulties in life and is yet thankful to God, is something quite difficult to believe. He is an evangelist and preaches about God and his kind heartedness. In 2007, Nick made the long journey from Australia to Southern California where he is the founder and president of the Los-Angeles based non-profit ministry, Life Without Limbs, which was established in 2005.
Later, he married a Japanese American, Kanae Miyahara and has got a very healthy child.
Nick says, “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!” What a statement! This man is an author, musician, actor and his hobbies include fishing, painting and swimming. Today, he is a source of inspiration to many lives across the globe who believe that physical shortcomings make one useless and unsuccessful. When asked that how he manages to keep up with so much inspiration, he says, “We all have worries. I am not a superhero. But I embrace life and focus on what is most important.”
